Upgrading to 1080p from Sanyo Z3 - to LCoS ?

Hi there,

I just got a Toshiba A1 HD DVD player 2 days ago. So it's time to go big style on my projector! :)

I'm looking to upgrade my Sanyo PLV-Z3 to something that gives me 1080p. I've done as much research as I can before posting this, so that I don't "do a newbie" and waste anyone's time :)

I like the sound of LCoS projectors like the Sony and the JVCs. The screens look smoother than some of the DLPs I've seen, although they don't have as much contrast. I'm willing to give up the contrast to have something that I can sit relatively close to to get "inside" the experience.

So I've looked around and these projectors are not cheap! :) But I see a couple of second-hand HD2Ks pop up and I'm tempted.

Does anyone have some advice on this, and what to look out for, or possible alternatives?

I really appreciate any advice on the subject - Thanks!

The Sony ruby, has some refurbished units on the market now. May want to check them out?

One poster raves that he sits at 1x of screen width and is super.

The Sony Ruby gets rave reviews although it allegedly is not very bright (800 ANSI lumens) for its cost. IF money is a factor, you might want to research the cost of the replacement bulbs as well as the life of the bulbs since a couple of online prices that I have seen for Ruby's replacement bulbs were $ 999.99 each.

Surely Optoma, Sanyo, Panasonic, InFocus, Epson, Sharp, etc. will be bringing out their 1080P projectors by the end of the year which should result in the cost of the Ruby coming down as well as providing less expensive alternatives in 1080P projectors. I eagerly await news of any new 1080P projectors since I cannot afford $1000 replacement lamps were I to purchase a Sony VPL-VW100 (AKA Ruby).
