Upgrading speakers without burning Denon 1713

Hello, this is my first post :)

I have the energy take classic set with a Denon 1713. When I listen to music for a while at moderate volume the receiver gets hot. That is why i'm upgrading to bigger/more sensitive speakers. I tend to watch movies a little loud, and music from moderate to little high.

I dont have enough space for towers.

I'm liking this options:

-Monitor audio RX2 bookshelves for the front, RX Centre, and RX1s for the rear or

-KEF Q300 fronts, Q600c center and Q100s for the rear

-Or could just go with cheaper/lower quality options like Infinity primus, polk rtis, bic acoustech, etc

I was originally going for the KEFs but someone warned me that although they are rated 8 ohms, they tend to go down to 4 ohms. I see the RXs are rated 6 ohms.

Could you help me decide the safest option? I need bookshelf speakers, would prefer the RX2 they are very beautiful and sound good but I dont know if they will burn my receiver.

(MA RX2 sensivity is listed as 90db vs Q300 87db)

Is my receiver too weak for them?

Thanks!

Small open living room. The house is small.

Its an small living room. Connects to the resto of the house without walls.

Measures in case it can help:

-7ft from tv to main viewing poing (the sofa).
-11ft from the tv wall to backspeakers wall behind the sofa (the rears sit there).
-34ft from my living room wall to the furthermost end of the house (kitchen),

Audyssey calibration results:

-Front left +-0db
-Center +2.0db
-Front right +1.0db
-Surround right -4.5db
-Surround left -3.0 db
-Subwoofer -2.5 db

My setup:

-Receiver Denon AVR-1713 5.1
-Energy Take classic. 1 center and 4 satellites. Cable is 16 gauge.
-BIC 1020 10" subwoofer.
-LG lm6200 47" 3d TV
-PS3 for movies and games.

Thanks for your answers!

SPL is sound pressure level. If you don't know just tell us your typical volume setting, such as -15,-9,0 etc. when listening to level you most enjoy. Still need to know the width and ceiling height of your room in order to give you a more meaningful response. T

Floor to ceiling: 20ft
Width of the living room: 11ft

In my Denon I listen at volume "57" mostly everyday TV and gaming.

When I listen to music it is "60"

When I watch movies it is at "65"

When nobody is at home "70" everything.

This is with the energy take classics and the bic 1020 10" sub (a kiplish RW-12d is on the way).

Ive just been offered a total upgrade from Monitor Audio:

2 Rx2s, 2 Rx1s, and 1 Rxcentre.

All for the price of a pair of Q300 and the Q600c I was looking into (result: free Rx1 surrounds).

Should I take the RX package instead of the KEFs? I see the RX are 6ohms but have better sensivity (RX90db vs 87 db Q300).

My concern is not burn my receiver.
Thanks a lot

Those numbers are still only arbitrary if you don't know how the system is calibrated.

So for my edification, does Audessey always set "0" to reference?

I think my limit is -15 for listening.

Yes i think "0" is reference, but I set the Denon to display the arbitrary numbers so family doesn't get confused.

Good point, but yes Audyssey always use "0" as reference regardless of whether the voume is set to -80.5 dB to +18.0 dB or 0.0 to 99.0.

Your room is large because of the high ceiling and 34 length (being open to the kitchen). Good thing you are sitting close to the speakers, but that is just my assumption base on being 7 ft from the TV.

With volume at 60 to 65 your 1713 should be quite safe. You can check the temperature of the top of the enclosue with an infra gun so you can shoot through the perforated top to get to the inside. If the temperature is lower than say 45 deg C, that's not bad. If you want to be sure, just put a little PC fan on top and power it with the USB port but it is better to use an external dc power supply. I don't think you need to upgrade your Energy speakers just out of concern of burning the AVR. If you want to listen at higher than 70, and/or if the upgrade is for better sound quality then go for it.

I forgot to ask, did Audyssey set the crossovers to 120 or 150 Hz or higher?

No, It set them at 80.

Guys, I was late... Just got a pair of RX2s and a RXcentre, but not the RX1s surrounds.

I'm left with the take classic pair of surrounds, may I use them with no problems with the receiver while I find the missing RX1s to buy?

The pair of take classic is 8ohm and all the fronts and center 6ohm (no problem there for the denon combining impedances?).

Thanks a lot

Should be fine. By the way, set the crossovers higher manually if necessary, 80 should be fine for the RX2s but not lowere. 120 or higher should be better for the Take Classics.
