Upgrading Small Home Theater

Please I need some advice:

Current I have a 5.1 Canton Movie 65 CX speakers and sub-woofer and a Onkyo
TX-SR506 Receiver.

I will be moving these equipment to a bedroom 10x10. I like to upgrade the receiver and the speakers. I think 5.1 will be enough for this room, if not please let me know. And I like to upgrade the AV receiver too.
I like to use first as a good sound equipment then video receiver. My budget will be $1000 - $1500. I can spend more max $2500, but then I will buy in phases first the speakers then receiver next year.

I would be looking at speaker packages from RBH Impressions series, Ascend Acoustics, Hsu Research, or SVS. Those are just a few solid speaker companies to look at in your budget.

Agree with Shady. Ascend Acoustics receives quite a bit of praise around here and I've owned both Hsu and SVS speakers and/or subs. Both have excellent offerings.
