Hi Gene,

I am Swarna from India. Currently own a Old Onkyo R 430 6.1 100 watt per channel amp. this is almost 12 years old.
In fact i threw away the speakers that came with this set ( Home theatre in a Box ) and replaced the Left and right with my 30 year old
Akai 3 way bass reflex speakers with 8 ohms and 95 db sensitivity. Sounds great actually. now a 2 speaker setup. Sub is not used actually.Should I use it???
Now looking to Upgrade the Receiver to ONKYO TX NR 686. as it falls in my budget. would you recommend this Receiver? and what speakers should i choose?
Looking forward for your reply.

Thanks,
Swarna

What is the goal in changing receiver? What do you mean by upgrade? Are you now going to use a sub and multiple speakers for a 5.1 or 7.1 surround setup instead of just 2.0 ? I'd determine the speakers first before changing the receiver.

The 686 can do that. I'd still choose speakers first, so you can make sure the amplification suits....

Also by the way, I want to connect my Turntable, Tape deck, handy cam, VCR and all the latest digital devices possible with great connectivity. On the whole One receiver to watch Movies with 7.1 and also listen to good quality music from my Vinyls and tapes plus the online content.
