Upgrading home theatre -- Newbie

Hey everyone,

I am in the process of upgrading my home theatre and looking for some help.

I am setting it up in my living room which is 16'L X 13'W with an opening to my dining room. I originally purchased Polk RM6000 satellites 8 years ago. I got an onkyo sub from my brother when he updated his system. I recently upgraded my tv to a Panasonic TC-P50s30 and upgraded my receiver to a Denon AVR-1912.

Now I am looking to upgrade speakers. I found on newegg a pretty good deal on Polk Monitor 60 series speakers. $115 each and the CS2 center channel for $100.

Last year I purchased a pair of Polk R150 to replace my front satellites but am looking to move those to my rears.

I really can't justify spending more than $400 on my front speakers/center.

Before I decide to get those, I am curious if there are any other speakers to consider for my fronts/Center.

Next year, I am looking to upgrade the sub.

Any feedback is appreciated and thanks in advance.

I would rather just get 5 of the Infinity P163 bookshelf speakers (retail $159ea, sale $85ea) + a subwoofer than those Polks.

Here is their measurements & review:

Bottom line, they have a very good on axis response and have a very good 60-degrees horizontal off-axis response, which is a trait of accurate speakers.

I doubt if those Polks or any Polks < $1,000 will measure better than those $85 Infinity P163.

Here is an example of a more expensive Polk LSi9:

You can see the much less expensive Infinity measures a lot better than the $1K Polk.

I'd get some Primus speakers. If you can swing it get the 363 pair for the front and add a center later. The Polk's are fine for surround duty.

Thanks for the advice. How would those Infinity compare to the Jamo S606 5.0 system? It looks like those are on sale at Vanns for $400

They got a really good review at HomeCinnemaChoice.

I received this recommendation from another site.

Thanks again for any advice.

Preference in speakers is apparently subjective.

Who can you believe?

And is it a matter of truth or just a difference in opinion?

Without listening for yourself, the only thing I think you can trust is the objective speaker measurements. If they don't have speaker measurements, then you'll just have to take someone's subjective words.

The Infinity P363 and P163 both have been measured to be within the industry standard +/-3dB tolerance on the frequency responses, and both have very good 60-degrees off-axis polar responses.
