I am looking into upgrading my Yamaha recevier. My current setup includes:

42" Plasma 720p / 1080i
Panasonic DVD Progression scan
Dish Network 622 Hi Div receiver
2 - Klipsch RF-15s
1 - Klipsch RXV 620 sub
2 - unidentified rear speakers in the wall (already installed when we bought the house)
DSL wireless network

Anyway, I looking to upgrade picture, possibly audio quality, & possibly add a network receiver. I going to move my RXV 620 upstairs to go in the game room with a PS3 and a new LCD (once I pick one, maybe a Samsung LT-T4069f)

I love my HD on locals (OTA) and HD channels, but would like to improve the regular Dish channels.

Questions:
1) Is there a receiver at a moderate price (under $1,500 if possible) that will upscale my Regular Dish channels?
2) Which receivers do the best in upscaling?
3) Do the new Network receivers work with a Wireless network. My 2Wire hub is in another room, but less than 50 feet away?

I doubt that any of the AVRs have a better "scaler" than your TV.

Greg hit it the first post out. Very few receivers are going to have better scalers then your tv. The issue with a lot of plasma's is that standard def signals just don't look that good (main reason I want a RP) on them. I would get something that meets your audio needs and call it there.

So the supposed upscale to 1080p doesn't really work that well?

Some of my regular Dish Channels look really good, but occansionally the picture gets pretty soft. I can't remember what the technical term is, but it sometimes looks like an abstract art (color muted and not solid across the screen).

Well what would you recemmend as an upgrade on the audio side or is my 620 still pretty strong with the current speakers I have.

Also, what about the network capability? I like the idea of streaming audio from my computer and playing the several hundred songs I have stored on my computer.

It works fine but when you upscale a crappy signal, you have a crappy picture.

Sd just looks bad and not a lot can be done about it.

All Audioholics need an external amp.

Just stream your computer music to your PS3.
