OK, been asking questions and searching around for guidance to upgrade my Denon receiver. Went to my local audio dealer today and chatted with them for a while and between them and all the replies here I am confused.

I HAVE A BUDGET OF $2500 MAX!

Here are all the suggestions consolidated: (no particular order)
  • Emotiva 5 channel amp (XPA-5) and Pre/pro (UMC-200)
  • Buddy selling me his Anthem PVA-7 using my Denon 887 as pre/pro late on buy a pre/pro
  • Buddy selling me his Anthem PVA-7 and buying a Marantz pre/pro (7707 something) Local dealers suggestion
  • Upgrading to a Denon 4311CI or Denon 4511CI (if I remember the model numbers right)
  • Buy an Emotiva 5 channel amp and buy a Denon 4311CI
  • Local dealer suggests getting a ATI AT3007- 7 channel amp and use the Denon for pre/pro till I can afford a good pre/pro...

Any other ideas for limited funds???

Not sure what you are trying to power and what your goals are but using a decent AVR and an out board amp is all you will ever need. There is no need to "upgrade" to a decent pre/pro when you "can afford it".

I love Denon AVRs so pick the one that has the features you want/need, add an amp if you need one and tell you local dealer he is an idiot.

I would get a 4311CI and the ATI.

Get the ATI from here.

ParadigmDawg,

Thanks for the information....I am trying to power my Sonus Faber Concertinos, Sonus Faber Solo center channel, REL Stadium III, and 2 little Yamaha NS-580 speakers...I don't believe my current Denon, is doing justice to the Sonus Faber speakers...Looking to get a good (entry level) system and over time start to improve....A piece at a time. My budget won't allow me to go out and drop $20K in one moment...Really wouldn't do that any way, got to many hobbies to do that kind of money for just audio!

I have had NUMEROUS people suggest the Denon 4311CI or the next unit up (don't remember the model number)....Again thanks for the input!
