Upgrading 10 year old Yamaha A2 to a 3900 worth it ? help

Hi all new here and this is my first post so be kind just wanted some help

wanting to upgrade my yamaha A2 amp as its 10 years old now still works but the left channel on the Main A speaker is going but ok on the B channel so wanting a hdmi and the new sound format upgrade.

I have been looking at yamaha 3900

is this a good replacment for my amp will thay do a better job than the A2 as i was wanting somthing just as good or if not better than that but that has hdmi and the new sound formats.

can anyone help thanks


also upgrading my speakers to Kef IQ90, IQ30 and IQ60c using Chord Company Carnival SilverScreen cable. and a monolith sub

Yamaha 3900

I don't know what kind of speakers you are running or much about the A2. Is the A2 an Amp or a receiver?

I own the 3900 and it is a very nice piece of equipment. Depending on your speakers and how many speakers you are asking it to power, I think you will be happy with it.

It sounds great and the DSP modes are plentiful. Truthfully, I don't really use many of them, but it's good to have them there.

If you have power hungry speakers as mains, you can always use the 3900 as a Pre/Pro to give you your HDMI and upgraded formats and get a separate Amp for your mains. That is what I am doing...

I think you will be very happy with the RX-V3900 it is an awesome receiver. I have had mine for a couple weeks now and I'm very pleased with it. The KefIQ 90 has a sensitivity of 91dB/W @ 8ohms so it wont be any problems for this receiver. Think you have great setup with the Yama and the Kefs

at the moment i have a yamaha DSP A2 running kef Q35,Kef Q15 and Kef q95c

and wanting to upgrade to a yamaha 3900 with IQ90,IQ30 and IQ60c

just wanted to know if the new ssetup will blow the old one away i am supprised no one knows the yamaha A2 it was one of the best at its time and some people still say its a exellent amp even in todays market this is why i am asking if the 3900 is better

so the 3900 will drive the IQ90, IQ30 and I60c no bother then ?

I think you will love the 3900. The technology has progessed a lot since your A2 was new. However, if I was upgrading from an A2 I would spend the extra few hundred dollars and get the Z7. If I didn't already have a 2700 I would buy a Z7 today.

the Z7 is far to much for me to buy this is why i was asking about the 3900 as this is the most i could go to and dont want to replace my A2 with somthing less good but it sounds like that the 3900 is better than the A2
