Upgraded from RX-A2030 to CX-A5000 + MX-A5000 but the amp still shuts down!

If your pre-amp is set to -0dB volume, then you're sending 2Vrms into your amp's unbalanced input which is just too much. The amp can't output that volume. Change your volume to -6dB like PENG said and see if you still have the problem.

Question. What if he increases the speaker channel levels to +10.0 so that the master volume would never go higher than -10dB?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. If you set the L and R channel individual settings to +10dB, and the master volume is -10dB, then that's the same as if you didn't change the individual settings and set the master volume to -0dB. Although possibly with some noise or distortion added depending on the implementation.

Probably not, but he needs to determine if the amp shutdowns due to output reaching its set point when volume is at 0 or the speakers are at fault. If the former is true, then we can suggest he go with more sensitive and/or higher nomimal impedance speakers, or add external amps rated at least 300 WPC.

I thought I saw someone say his speakers are rated for 200W handling. If he uses a 300Wrms amp with a 2Vrms sensitivity, there's a good chance he'll damage his speakers through overextension and/or overheating.

I thought I saw someone say his speakers are rated for 200W handling. If he uses a 300Wrms amp with a 2Vrms sensitivity, there's a good chance he'll damage his speakers through overextension and/or overheating.

I think you are right about his speakers rated 200W. So I agree if he add a 300 WPC minimum amp he will therefore risk damaging the speakers but only if he listens to sustained ear bleed level. If that's his requirements then he definitely should look into replacing his speakers.

If there are signs of distress, distortion, or the sound is compression, back off the volume ;)

Again, 0 db is pretty loud. If it only blows on peaks, there's not much he can do about it without getting a megawatt amp, and that would probably blow his speakers anyway.

That's why I asked earlier what's playing when it blows.
 
Can't really offer any further input without getting some feedback for some of the previous suggestions..
Were these tried? What happened?

Agree, that's why I used the adjective "sustained".
