I think you are right about his speakers rated 200W. So I agree if he add a 300 WPC minimum amp he will therefore risk damaging the speakers but only if he listens to sustained ear bleed level. If that's his requirements then he definitely should look into replacing his speakers.

If there are signs of distress, distortion, or the sound is compression, back off the volume - Rich

If it only blows on peaks, there's not much he can do about it without getting a megawatt amp, and that would probably blow his speakers anyway.
