I posted this in another section of the forum, but thought maybe this would be a more appropriate place for responses since I'm a barely literate audiophyte.

I finally demoted my old receiver and (soon) the speakers and got the Marantz 1509. The room is a small-mid sized den—12'w x 16'l with the TV on the mantle over the fireplace (on a 12' side of the room). I'm not at the moment very interested in having surround satellite speakers, but may come around at some point. For the sub I got the Klipsch R-10SWi, and now I'm looking to get a couple bookshelf speakers to go next to the TV. As much as I'd like a center speaker, I don't want to try to mount it over the screen, and I don't want to lift the screen any higher up to fit it underneath. Maybe someday I'll cut a window out of the front of the mantle and mount it inside, but that's for another day...

Anyway, because I'm a sucker for the copper look, I'm looking at Klipsch cabinet speakers for left and right, and I'm noticing the much more Wife Approved walnut finish is only available in speakers rated at 75W. My receiver is rated at 50W per channel. Is that going to cause problems? Am I just going to slowly wear out my receiver or cause any other issues? Everyone seems to have a different answer when this question is asked vaguely, but I figured with more precise description people who know might be better able to get me to the answer.

There is no problems between the rated power handling of your speakers vs the power of the amp. Both specifications are very vague and don't mean a whole lot anyway. I would just say if you are cranking your speakers loud and if they audibly distort, its time to turn them down. If they start to sound fuzzy and harsh, lower the gain.

Agree with post #2.

Won't cause any problems.

For about the same money or slightly more, you can do a lot better with the Denon AVR-X3400H. If you can still return the 1509 you should think about it, unless you must have the slim feature.

Yeah, unfortunately, the slimness was a necessity based on the size of the cabinet (built in) and other components that already take up some space.

Be sure to provide proper ventilation in the cabinet....
