Upgrade with existing speakers

I'm going full tilt down that slippery slope where I innocently bought a 54" HDTV and realized I needed a "Blue Ray" then a Digital receiver and now speakers. I hope to salvage some of my speakers in building a good sound system. I have:
Panasonic 54" TC54PS14,
Panasonic Blu-ray BD 605,
Denon AV Surround Receiver AVR-1609
2 JBL Studio Tower Speakers S310 (40-20000 hz),
2 Bose Model 100 Bookshelf Speakers.
At last the question:
Can I use the JBLs for my side speakers, and
can I use the Bose as surround speakers.
If so, am I correct in assuming that I will need a sub woofer and a front/center speaker to complete the "surround sound" system?
Suggestions on feasibility of proceeding appreciated, as well as buying a Sub woofer and middle speaker.

Heh, heh, welcome to the band wagon! Yes you can use the JBLs/Bose for whatever you want. It is best to have the front 3, L/C/R, come from the same manufacturer product line. It's not always possible, mine aren't, but sometimes a good compromise can be found. You definitely want a decent sub for the best HT experience.
