Upgrade LS40 to 5.1 HT Setup - Confused !!

Dear Experts,

Currently i've JBL LS40 with denon 720ae, with no sub. Now i want to upgrade this setup to 5.1, when i asked people from my city they said don't buy LS60/LS80 as they will destroy the purpose of LS40. Is this true ? If true then please suggest me what should i buy that should blend perfectly with these LS40. Till now i've got suggestion-> Denon x3100/4100 + Monitor Audio BXFX + ELAC2050 Sub + JBL LS Center Speaker.
My room dimension is ~14x16.
P.S. :- prices in my country are double of what is in USA So,i'm looking around 2000-2500USD for the whole setup excluding amp. I've searched many forums but only found 2 threads but they were very old.

No it isn’t. In fact, JBL marketed the LS40 as a complete 5.1 set – see here:

Thanks guys, I'll go for LS60, centre speaker and LS120P Sub. How is this LS120P sub compared to SVS, Elac, JL Audio which are around the same price segment !!

The JBL sub rolls off early

A good SVS sub can work, if sold in your country.

JL Audio, also makes some nice subs - also some high prices.

I would try to at least aim for the x3100

Finally I bought one ls center speaker, one ls 120p, p520 surround with lexicon rv-8. I know this model is very old but it was way much better than Marantz / Denon in both audio and video. What are your inputs guys?
