Upgrade from M22?

I've been using M22 as main front off RX-V2700 for my setup but now that I am moving to a new house and the theater room is alot bigger (about 20ftx35ft) I am wondering if it's necessary for me to upgrade the M22 for floor standing setup. I was eyeing the Polk 70 as they're reasonably priced and in good standing with buyers.

Yea I been looking at that unit as well, though I don't know how well it compares to the Polk. I am still unsure if I should upgrade.

try the M22 in the larger space first to see how it works out. You can upgrade anytime. Are you happy with the sound of the M22s?

Yea I am planning to see how they sound in the room first. I love the M22s. I was very surprised they perform so well for their compact size. I would feel sad to have to sell them but because the new room is so much larger I just feel a little intimidated that bookshelf fronts would handle it.

koei - I went to Axioms site, and those are some nice speakers first off. Axiom recommends them for medium to large size rooms, and they are very sensitive at 93 Db, 1w/1m. And they are able to handle 200 watts, so rock out brother .

What your going to notice is that you might need a bigger sub, or a second sub to fill up that large room. I think the Axioms will do fine with 90-150 watts, but what kind of sub do you have?

I say try out your M22's in the new room first and see how they do before deciding to buy new speakers.

Did some calculations and the room should be around 4k cubic feet. Oh and I am using PB12-NSD.

You should get another PB12 before you upgrade your mains.

I agree with gus. After listening at loud volumes your going to probably want another PB12-NSD. Just my guess.

If you want to fill the whole space, the M22 probably won't do it. If you do all your listening in close proximity to your speakers you might be OK.

If you love the M22, consider the M80. They have all the attributes of the M22 + excellent bass extension and they will play very loud while staying clean.

See my post number #7 in this thread. Also the M80's are a 4 ohm speaker which his receiver can drive in stereo mode, but probably not in surround sound with 5 channels in use, in which case he would need an external amp.

Rick, I saw your post # 7. I guess I should have expanded on what I wrote a little. For those who have compared the M22 to floorstanders in larger rooms, many have found them 'thin' in a larger space.

The RXV-2700 may or may not manage with the M80s. Some Yamahas work fine, some don't. The M80 is also a very sensitive speaker so they don't draw a lot of power, just more current and its that higher current draw that causes issues with some receivers.

You're right. Maybe I am a little biased, but when I a/b auditioned the M22 M60 and M80 I found that the M80 was noticably more articulate than the M60. That's not to say that the M60 is not a good speaker, its just that for the money, the M80 is that much better.
