Hi All,
from reading Tom's excellent review on the Pioneer VSX-82TXS, I understood that certain visual artifacts was apparent when upconverting from 480i and 720p to 1080i from both the component and HDMI. Reading the forums seems to indicate that this was indeed a real problem and not just a fluke on the system Tom reviewed.
After many calls to Pioneer I finally got a techie on the phone that knew more than what was printed in the manual, and he claimed the issue was fixed with a firmware patch to version 1.005, and that all customers can receive such an upgrade free of charge from any of Pioneers 25 certified service centers in the US.
After messaging back and forth with Tom, it is clear that his unit did not have this version of firmware, hence the big question though seems to be: Does anyone here on these forums have a Pioneer VSX-82TXS with the new firmware, and has it indeed solved the issue?.
I truly hope that it does as I'm not too keen to have to wait until September or so for Pioneer to release their 90-series Elite receivers (which according to the rep I spoke to should support HDMI 1.3).
Thanks for helping out with getting to the bottom of this.
