Update Firmware for DD+ & True HD?

Considering the new HD disc formats will include Dolby Digital Plus, True HD, and others from DTS, does anyone know if Yamaha or other manufacturers will be able to update the firmware on current receivers (via the RS232 port) to support these new codecs internally? I understand that the new players have 5.1 analog outputs, but a 1 wire connection to the receiver would be ideal.

In theory, receiver manufacturers could provide firware updates to support DD+, but that assumes that there is an appropriate digital transmission medium. Namely, firwire or HDMI 1.3. Since the HDMI 1.3 spec isn't finialized yet, I would expect current receivers will provide updates or be compatible. I also would not expect updates unless you have a flagship model like the Denon 5805.

To take advantage of the new formats, most user's will have to use the multichannel analog inputs on the receiver and rely on the bass management and D/A's on the DVD player.
