Hi all,

I haven't been on here since my last thread posting, sorry that I just disappeared lol.

I didn't buy any new speakers after auditioning the speakers in my old thread, which was fun and great positive learning experience.

So, I still have my KLH T-5AW speakers. But my Panasonic SA-XR25 receiver recently died. It showed it had power plugged in on stand by, but when I pushed the power button nothing happened but a click noise and didn't power on.

I called a local company that is capable of fixing it, but he suggested not to waste money trying to fix it. And suggested purchasing a newer model HDMI receiver.

So after some research and being a frugal buyer :D I purchased a refurbished Sony STR-DH540 for $179 from Newegg.ca

This is the first ever HDMI receiver I've ever owned. Monkish54 suggested to me prior that my Panasonic receiver had inherent flaws and said I should upgrade my receiver. I didn't think that a newer receiver with HDMI would have a discernible improvement over my Panny. I enjoyed it for 5,6 or 7 years until it died.

Even though the Sony I purchased is an entry level model, it had all the features I wanted and I didn't want. Especially Pure Direct Mode 2ch Stereo. I don't know if the specs are an improvement over the Panny, but with my KLH speakers my enjoyment in music listening has improved even more! Maybe its because of the new receiver + HDMI vs. Panny + Coaxial?

I can clearly hear more clarity, clearness and resolution in all my favorite cds.

Mulgrew Miller: Hand in Hand
Arturo Sandoval: I Remember Clifford
Yanni Live At The Acropolis Lol
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones: Live Art.....and more!

I have bargain components, Sony receiver, Magnavox Bluray, KLH speakers, No-name premium HDMI cables, speaker wire.....Anyone with Audiophile Reference components should take a listen to one of my favorite tracks, I hear so much more in it now.

Bela Fleck: Live Art, Disc 2 Track 1: Improv/Amazing Grace(Live Version)

6:46 minutes of just a bass guitarist playing, but its an insane track of Victor Wooten who plays a fretless bass guitar. I can hear every nuance of his strings and the live crowds reaction. More clearly than it was with the Panny receiver.

To me my current setup listening enjoyment is pretty close to all those speakers I auditioned using my cds that I liked alot, Focal Chorus 716V , Monitor Audio Silver RX6, Paradigm Monitor 9 Series 7.......I'm sure if I had one of these speakers it would improve my overall enjoyment even more.

But I am thoroughly satisfied with my KLHs :p even with the compromises that I'm sure they have, in comparison to other similarily priced tower speakers....Fluance, Pioneer, Polk Audio RTi TSi, Infinity Primus....

I also have a BNIB the matching KLH HT-300 3Piece Surrond Sound System I got cheap, too bad it's Beechwood not matching Applewood like my towers but I don't care lol that I want to setup in the future soon with a sub too maybe running off my Sony. :) Hopefully the Sony won't die soon? I like it alot. I guess a minor upgrade I did payed off alot more for me than I thought it would. Cheers all! Oh, I still want to audition B&W speakers :D
