I still watch many of my old SD DVD's, but have been watching them on an older DVD player. So I thougth what the hell why not get a upconverting DVD player for them. I don't know what one to buy, really the feild is wide open because I don't know much about the upconversion procsess. I'd like some help deciding what to get without spending a fortune. But keep in mind I'd liek one that does the job, and does it good... perferably into 1080p.

It depends on your price range. My recommendation: www.oppodigital.com 980 or 983, take your pick. These are easily some of the best upscaling players around period.

Mike,

If strong audio capability (SACD?) is also a requirement/desire in addition to strong upconverting performance, three players in the ~$100-200 price point to consider are:

1) A new or used Oppo 980H, I just purchased one (from J-Garcia) and am eagerly awaiting.
2) A used Denon DVD-757, the player I own now and have been very pleased with. This is the same as the DVD-1930ci, rebadged for certain retailers, as far as I can tell.
3) A new Pioneer Elite 48AV, similar capabilities to the above two, and at Vanns.com for ~$100. I have only read about this one, no hands on.

When the 980H arrives I can provide a subjective comparison of PQ and SQ to the DVD-757 if that helps.

Cheers,

For what its worth I have the Denon 1930ci and it does a great job both in picture and sq. I had an older Pio before that and when I got the Denon it was like watching colour TV for the first time pq was that much better.

I don't know how I missed this thread? I would agree with J Garcia on this. The OPPO's are the best thing out there right now for the price and performance..

Hello Folks! I am new here in this forum and I don't know if I am in the right topic.

Can anyone help me with my problem about recording the shows I've recorded from my Verizon Fios Cable box to my newly bought Panasonic 1080p upconversion DVD-RW.

I have the red, white and yellow jacks tried connecting it both at the back of the TV and the cable box and still, it doesn't record.

Please help me. Thanks

Is the Panasonic just a DVD player or a DVR? If you post the model numbers of both units someone may be able to help.
