I have a hard time believing those huge glass horn speakers sound good enough to make them worth the wacky aesthetic that the owner in this case is obviously shooting for.:D

OTOH, interesting collection of designs - sure is a lot of imagination out there... :)

Either some of those designs sound incredibly dreadful, or the person naming the article "17 Cool Speakers Designs that Look Better than They Sound" has very different taste than I do. Some of those, in my opinion, are hideous looking.

Anyway, thanks for the links, as they are interesting.

I like the looks of the little wooden orbs in the first link. Some weird designs in there for sure.

The Sputnik has a sort of bondage aesthetic to it that appealing in a weird way. Wake up the gimp.

I hope that is for real. That is quite possibly the coolest thing I have every seen.

No... they're terrible.

Why? Because I've spent ages working on some techniques to produce speakers just like that, and now I find someone has already done it!

Repeat mantra to self... mine will look better... mine will look better... (assuming I ever actually make some) ;)

There used to be a speaker known as the Hill Plasmatronic. It used a plasma tweeter. You needed a tank of Nitrogen to feed the Plasma. There also used to be the Fane Ionovac Tweeter which was also a plasma design. You can sometimes find them in garage sales. The Fane's that is.
The Hill's were megabuck speakers and are rarely found on the used market.

I've posted this at the Youtube thread, but as they're weird, it best to save them here as well.

Dr. Zeus likes to play with them

Ok, he's not playing anything, he's just there for show.
