Unsure where to ask this question about connecting receiver to pc

I have a yahama rx v383 receiver and i currently have it connected to my pc via hdmi using the HDMI 1 port on the receiver and an HDMI port on my GPU. I then have my tv connected to my pc using port 1 on the LG c9 and the second HDMI port on my gpu.

The issue I'm having is this sets my pc as having 2 screens and the only way to get sound is to have the screens extended. This has windows opening on the second screen and is causing slight cutoff issues.

I've tried connecting the Receiver to the TV via ARC port 2 (tv) and HDMI out (Receiver) but this doesn't give pc sound. I've also tried connecting the supplied red/white cable to the Receiver to the pc audio jack, but this only allowed 2/6 speakers to play. I'm certain this is an easy issue but i just don't know enough about audio/video connection to figure it out.

Its not a simple issue. Connecting any HDMI output to more than one input, is always a cluster you know what. You get EDID issues for one thing. Just connect your pc to the receiver and your receiver the TV. If you do that life will be bliss. Go down your current rabbit hole and life will be misery.

oh, i think I wasn't clear. The TV is my monitor. The sound system is basically my pc speakers. We use the PC for 100% of our entertainment so no need to use the system as anything else. However, as things always happen, I believe i may have solved the issue and I'm waiting for the cable to test my theory. S/pdif is something I have never used or really even knew about until now and I suspect that if I run that instead of HDMI, it will solve the issues.

Sound > PC > TV and I'll worry about other sorts of connections if they come up. I'm going to feel real stupid if using this connection fixes the problems after on and off working on it for a week

Now you have confused me more. I think now you are trying to get sound from your receiver to the pc and not the other way round. That may be tricky as the line outputs from receivers usually only allow for output from analog inputs, because of DRM.

Succinct clear explanations do not appear to be your forte.

Yeah, I gotta admit I'm confused as to what it is you're trying to do too. I use a PC in my entertainment center as well. I use HDMI out from PC in to receiver, then out from receiver to TV monitor. I can use everything just fine.

Yeah I'd run pc to avr then audio out to speakers video to display. Might just be an audio setting in computer for hdmi audio?

Take the wire from the PC to the TV out of the equation.

The video connections on your PC are video & audio OUTPUTS, so audio and video goes out of the PC to the receiver, then the receiver should be connected to the TV.

VIDEO PATH:
PC->RECEIVER->TV

AUDIO PATH:
PC->RECEIVER->SPEAKERS
