I saw this tonight, and enjoyed it. Bearing in mind that it's a near-disaster flick with all the usual characters and set up, they do a good job in keeping up the suspense. The characters are engaging, Denzel Washington as the grizzled train veteran, Chris Pine as the green novice, finding themselves on a locomotive, between a toxic, runaway train and certain disaster. Nothing that happens is very surprising, but the shaky, grainy video style, "you are there" feel and the earnest-ness of the whole production, actually makes it work. The cynical might note that half of the movie has a Fox logo on screen (TV coverage). Fortunately, it was a lot better than my previous out of control train flick, that all time favorite "The Atomic Train".

Seems like a REALLY dumb premise, but the reviews also said it wasn't that bad. Maybe a return to the good old "towering inferno" style disaster movies is coming?

It seemed like a dumb premise, but I checked and it's actually mainly true. The real event happened in Ohio and wasn't quite as dramatic as the flick and freight trains don't get up to 80 MPH, but yes, a brain-addled engineer actually left the train while it was in motion and couldn't get back on and it was loaded with a scary organic solvent. The train was stopped after something like 60 miles, pretty much like it happened in the movie. Just watched the blu ray of this movie and it was actually pretty good, and quite suspenseful. The video was decent, but the audio was great, lots of bass and the surrounds were well used as well. This one is definitely worth checking out.

we just saw the BR tonight, :D (we never go to theaters)

pretty good action imo,I have always liked Denzel and still do,he was his usual good self here,

movie was too short as is many new ones.

BUT! the best part was the bass rumble of the trains !
every scene with the trains up close was amazing bass and my subs(having finally tuned them to my liking) sounded great,

like was said,i agree the surround was really good.

shook the house. :D I am finally happy with my bass !

and this movie is worth seeing IMO
