Gentlemen: Not sure where to put this thread, so threw it in here.

I am in the market for a Universal Remote. Money not really an issue on it, so was looking for suggestions. Just looking for pound-for-pound the best out there.

I'm running w/a Harmony 688 in my bedroom setup and a Universal Remote URC300 in my main setup, that just recently replaced a Sony RM-AV3000 block.

I've only had the URC300 for a few weeks now, but it's a pretty solid universal and can be had for under $60 (it's even a few dollars cheaper than when I grabbed it) here from Amazon. I don't know too many other universal remotes that can compete with it's functionality, ergonomics and form factor at that price... -TD

Logitech Harmony 890 or 1000

(when I bought mine last month, the 890 was 249+ on amazon)

I take it you're referring to John and jmrife's posts? -TD

Model Numbers?
You didn't give a price range, so I would figure whatever is in your price range from those companies. You really can't go wrong with either, just look for the features you want and the number of devices supported and you should be all set.

Philips Pronto Professional TSU-9600 and Serial Extender RFX9600. Get that baby programmed and up and running you will be a happy man.

I have two Harmony 659's and have gotten 3 others for friends and everyone loves them. I love the fact that just about anyone can pick it up and use it without messing up my home theater. They have a very nice help feature that can walk you through and fix problems you may be having with your settings if commands arent recieved by your equipment. The newer 880 (IRcommands) and the 890 (RFcommands) look very nice with there color lcd screens. All harmony remotes are very easy to program on there website. I had wonderful customer service experience last christmas day while setting up one for a friend with an obscure set of command codes on a TV. They had it up and running in no time with a less then 2 minute wait for tech service.

If you are willing to use your computer to set up your remote I highly recommend the MX-850. The 850 is very flexable. It is the perfect remote for people that insist on having things exactly like they want them.

I kinda dig the Harmony 1000.

Money is not an issue....

My boy (who runs a Sound Advice) recommends a Creston TPMC4x, which I think is a couple of grand. I dunno about spending more on my remote than I did on my receiver, but if it can control everything right down to the cofee maker, I might consider it.

Recently purchased a harman kardon TC-30...
Impressed with the ease and time it took to program and ended up putting the pronto to bed.

I really like the looks of the Harmony 1000, and want to get my hands on one before purchasing. The 1000 has to be pretty special to get me to replace my 880. Buttons on the 1000's touchscreen (i.e., most buttons), will provide no tactile feedback. I'm a bit doubtful about that. But remain interested, and will check it out with an open mind. I want to like it, as it looks so darn cool! :)
