Universal Remote Question for the Denon3805

I have tried to program my universal remote that comes with the Denon 3805. Sometimes the remote doens't pick up programs I learn into the remote.
i.g.- I tried to "learn-in" skip forward button for a dvd. The remote says o.k. when learned in but nothing happens when I try to skip to the next scene.
Also I tried to learn in the last button to go back one screen for the cable menus.
Thanks

Hmmm, the skip forward/back one chapter, fast forward/reverse function, the frame advance button-shoot, everything works fine on mine, both with my old JVC DVD player and the new 2910 (although I didn't have to use any of the learning functions). What model DVD player do you have?

Bryan...I really like my 3805/2910 combo...

I also had problems with my 3805 and the skip forward / skip back. My DVD is a Sony NS-725P and whenever I tried to learn those functions the Denon remote would lock-up and I would have to remove the batteries to get it working again and still the sf/sb would not work. My remote also had a few other problems so I sent it back and Denon sent me the revised remote (its blue and the old one was black) anyway the new still has alot of problems, but it did finally learn the skip forward and back buttons,... it also locked-up when it learned them, but after removing the batteries it still remembered those functions.
I'm about one more irratation from buying a Harmony!!! ;-)

Call Denon to get an RA# and get a new one. Is it the 969 or 970?

Regardless if it works or not I don't like the remote. I use an aftermarket remote for my HT anyway. It's disappointing that Denon hasn't come up with a better solution. Give Denon points for trying something different but in the end they failed miserably IMO.

Dude, I have the same problem. And it's the new "blue" remote, now the old "black" one. It locks up about once every three days for no apparent reason.

I cannot believe that such a quality receiver as the 3805 would come with such a hokey remote unit. What was Denon thinking? Did they just outsource the remote with no quality control inspections at all? :(

Here's my recommendation for others shopping for A/V receivers. If you are torn between the 3805 and another, virtually equal, receiver. Do NOT go with the Denon. I many see posts regarding the remote control and associated problems ... to the point that I believe it's not worth taking the risk that you, too, will have a bad remote.

On the other hand, the specs on the 3805 are great and it performs very, very well. The issues with the remote don't affect the sound one whit.... so for many the right choice would be the 3805 even with the likelihood of a bad remote control.

I think remotes are pretty much just an afterthought for receivers in the under $1,000 range. Tiny buttons, limited or very poor learning capabilities, no backlighting, etc. Basically worthless.

It does sound like Denon is particularly bad in that area (never owned one). If it were me, I would just hope I could get it to work long enough to teach all of its commands to a real remote, like the HTM MX-500.
