universal remote help

Do the more expensive universal remotes really work? Like the URC200 or Harmony 880. I know the remotes that come with a TV or receiver doesn't work that well. It can only turn on and off, but many of the other functions don't work well. Does a universal remote work like the original remote for a particular unit?

Most receivers ship remotes that allow the user to control the basic set of TV, DVD, CD, Cable box etc. and store 1 to 5 macros. That said, I have the harmony 880 and IMHO it is worth every penny.

Yes, the Harmony really works. It is the first remote I have ever had that actually controls all my stuff. I have a 680 and it is currently about $74, great remote for the money.

I bought the 890 but I havent used it yet ... I read from the instructions that you program it from your PC (my pc is still in the shop) connected to the internet. but can it learn for example my airconditioning and electric fan remotes (which is most likely not recognized by logitech)?

I've had the Philips Pronto TSU7000 for about 4 or 5 months now and I've got to say if you are into having fun setting up as well as listening then this is an awesome option. I've only been home for 2 weeks since I got the remote. I decided to bring it with me and when I'm not laptoping I'm macroing.

My Harmony 628 works very well, and I like it a lot.
It probably will work the air conditioning and fan, from codes at the site. If they don't have the codes, it will learn from other remotes too. :)

Urc-300

I picked up the URC-300 and RF base station recently for just over $100. The touch screen LCD is nice and the RF capabilities work great. The Harmony w/ RF is >$300 so I opted for this entry level solution.

I second that. Love my Harmony. Had to buy 2 more for my inlaws when they saw mine. :)
