Universal players vs. CD only players

All,

How significant (if any) is the difference in sound quality of a dedicated
hi quality CD player, say a rotel or marantz versus the cd section of a universal player like a denon 2200 or 2900. I've read plenty of articles claiming that universal players, because of their flexibilty, make sacrifices in in their components that lesson the sound quality for basic 2 channel music.

Anyone ever done any side by sides to check this out? Any truth?

Thanks,

Insignificant differences. CD playback is not rocket science.
$80RCA players could not be differentiated from ones costing $1000s, under bias controlled conditions, from a DBT in T$$ a while back.

I too would like to know if i can get better sound from a straight good ol' CD player compared to playing CD's on a DVD player.

Where do you find CD players now adays and what are good names.

Stand alone CD players are not worth it. Use a DVD player if you have one.
