unique speaker setup question?

Im not even sure this the spot to ask this or if there is a concrete answer but i can only ask. Im disabled (close to bed riden) so im trying to setup as much as i can that i can wirelessly control, most of its easy but before buy/try something i'm not %100 sure about, I figure it's better to ask. What I would like to do is somehow hook a decent sound system, that can control from my PC. (I have my desktop setup at the foot of my bed and mouse is just in my lap and i just use the on screen keyboard). I was thing i could buy a stand alone AMP (a 2.1) that has bluetooth and connect it to my PC and control it from there. I kinda found a weird way to control stuff with my phone to. ( I connected my phone with phone link program). So can screen share my phone screen and control the stuff that way to if i need to. I was hoping I could get a 2.1 AMP or whatever, something with a APP or program that i can download and control with my PC or phone (if i have to.)

I see no reason i cant, but i would rather be sure before spending a buch of money and set it all up. just to find out i cant control it

Do you have a certain budget you would like to stay at? That will help when we are looking. What's the max you want to spend for the Dac and speakers and sub?

Also you said due to your situation your mostly laying down. So you won't be sitting at the desk a lot to listen to this setup nearfield. You'll be laying back listening from a distance. Am I correct to assume that?

I just rechecked your original post so the desktop is setup at the foot of your bed. Do you use your computer screen as like say the TV to view? Or will the video be going to a TV.

Will this setup be for movies and music and TV? Like a multipurpose setup? Or just for music only

I figure $700 - $1000 should get better than i have now (Logitech Z625). it'll be mostly be for music. just my monitor (4k 32" LG). i just stream on it. if i have to i can just switch the sound output option between the two when i need to. like i mentioned it's kind of a strange setup I'm shooting for. if im SOL, so be it.

I would get an AVR (even used) for 2.1 and go big or go home. I work my system from my PC and a remote (another benefit of an AVR). Could probably hook the TV up to it as well if you happen to have one of those in your room.

I'd have what amounts to a complete sound system up against a front wall, the foot of my bed parked right up to it, and toe-in some large (8" and larger) near field capable monitors, with two subs FTW.

Im confident all of us together can figure something out. Ok music mainly maybe occasional movies okay one last question how will the speakers be setup? At the foot of the bed? How much distance will your head be from where your thinking of putting your speakers?

Many AVRs support network connections and protocols such as DLNA, Airplay 2 and Chromecast. A Smart phone connected to the same network will be able to stream directly to the AVR as well as control its functions including powering it on and off and adjusting volume levels. It can also send music from a PC/Server to the AVR. This is very convenient if getting to a PC at the foot of the bed is painful or difficult.

Yamaha AVRs have MusicCast for streaming music and can be set up/controlled with a computer or phone/tablet. You would need to connect it to the network, find the IP address and enter that in the browser's search bar. Save it as a favorite and you can manage it very easily. Denon ended IP control years ago and have made excuses for not allowing it ever since- I stopped looking into their features a couple of years ago when I became unable to do larger installations. If you want to add an AppleTV or Roku, you may be able to use BlueTooth to control them- AppleTV does have this ability and Roku apps are available.

I don't think the Fosi or SMSL amps will be controllable by app completely. I'd also think about an avr, and will have better management of a sub, too.

AVRs from Denon/Marantz, Integra/Onkyo/Pioneer, Sony and Yamaha all have control apps for iOS and Android. Though, new Yamahas will use their MusicCast app for control as the Yamaha Controller app only works with older models.

Apple’s newer iPhones have network remote control of the Apple TV 4K built in. Android phones can download and use the Apple TV Remote app over a network. Roku also has its own network controller app for Smart phones.

Different music streaming services work differently among different AVRs. So, consider the music sources before deciding on any AVR. Speakers will decide the quality of sound more than a particular AVR. But, the AVR needs to support the network and music streaming features needed by the user in the optimal and most user friendly way. Those needs will be different for different folks.

And the Fossi 2.1 amp he suggested looks solid I've used Fossi before and the products were always reliable

The speakers I've suggested are self powered and he can run the sub off from them saving him some money on a Dac because they can just plug directly into his computer I believe they also have Bluetooth on sale those Monoprice speakers are a really good deal and will save him lots of time money and effort setting up

So if he uses the Fossi Dac he will need some passive speaker options

I know AVR's might be a good option but at a working budget of 700 to 1000 that can eat up a lot of OP's budget really quick

What do you guys think? Also what are some ideas you guys have for speakers sub Dac if he goes with that only

Or if he goes with AVR what's a good budget one and what speakers and subs do you recommend with the model your recommending?

So that's my top pick the Monoprice Monolith MTM-100 desktop speakers they have Bluetooth and a subwoofer connection with those you won't even need a Dac. They will plug into your laptop and the sub and they will do everything you need

Those are on sale right now for 300 the sub I liked is 140 so for under $500 you have an all in one setup hooks straight to your computer minimal install work required you can put the sub nearfield if you need to to enhance the effect

That sub can only go so low but since your primary using this for almost 100% music and only the occasion movies or show it should be perfect for your needs

He will need a Y splitter to connect the sub out from those speakers to the line level inputs on that sub but what's cool about that is he can then use the line level outputs to daisy chain a second sub and on his budget he could buy 2 of those subs easy and really get some good bass

So yeah @killercripple you can actually for 580 buy those Monoprice Monolith speakers I linked skip the Dac and buy 2 of those subs I linked and have a really really solid setup and since those speakers are Bluetooth you should have complete control with your phone

The little Denon is actually quite capable with five 4 ohm speakers and can be had from Costco on the cheap. Both pieces could be had for the $1,000 limit and it would be a sweet little setup.

Why not have surround sound and full network control and hi-res audio support over wifi in the setup if it can be done within budget? It really would be a sweet little setup and big improvement in sound I’m sure. Though, there are lots of options out there and the most user friendly is a must here. But, I’ll always vote for the network option over Bluetooth connection.
