Unique, I think surround question.

Hi all, my first post, my name is Roger.
For some background info. I live in a MH with a breakfast bar separating my kitchen and living, but otherwise a wide open 16' by 30-32'. My main listening position is about 5' from the left wall and about 10' from the right wall.

My equipment so far is a pair of Polk monitor 50's for my mains, and the Polk monitor cs1 for the center. I am running a Klipsch Synergy 12 sub. I am running a Denon AV-1708 receiver that produces 75wpc. These are against my front wall(with the opposite wall being 30ish feet away) and my listening position is aprox 10' from the speakers. It sounds phenomenal as it is, however I want to add 2 Klipsch s-10 bipole speakers for the rears, mounted to the ceiling at 8-9'.

My first question is; will the sound integrate properly, given that the speakers will not be equidistant from the side walls as they will be centered on me? They will be about 2-3' behind the listening position. This will put them about 16 off the back wall.

Next, are there any suggestions on what speakers I should use for the side speakers? The will also be hung from the ceiling at the same height as the rears. Should I go with direct firing or do you thing I could use S-10's for these positions as well(being that these will be 18-19' off the back wall)?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Roger and Welcome to AH Forums.
I don't know about others, but I find it a bit hard to visualise you setup. It would very helpful if you could post a link to photo sharing site, like photobucket. You need few more posts to do that, but please don't just spam. There is dedicated padding thread in vent sub-forums I think.

So to summarize your current HT system is 3.1 and you're looking to turn it into 5.1? Correct?
Bear in mind since your space is one open room - this is not the best layout for di-pole/bi-pole speakers to shine - they work best in conventional "shoebox" rooms , but you're welcome to try if you could return them hassle free.

I would recommend to have surround speakers tweeter to be 1-2 ft above your ear level and if you must hang them near ceiling, point the tweeter towards 1-2ft above your listening position ear level.

I am no Polk fan and honestly matching surrounds to mains is not as critical, but since you don't have any new speakers yet - you probably better off matching surrounds with your polk mains (can't believe I'm actually saying this)

Well to be more precise the room is 16x30 and my setup will only take up the front half. I am going 7.1.
I was wanting to use the s10 bipoles for the rear surrounds. I just wasn't sure if they would work being 16 or so feet away from the back wall. I am almost sure I will have to use the direct fires for my side surrounds.
I will post a diagram later on when I am allowed.
