Apologies in advance for a long post. I also apologize if this in the wrong forum.

I need a uncommon TV stand. Space is limited in my living room, and I cannot find a spot for my subwoofer (which I haven't bought yet because I'm aware that there is no spot). I have my heart set on the HSU STF-2 to go along with the Polk RTi8's and Yamaha RX-V659 I already have. It is a fairly big subwoofer, 9”(h)/14”(w)/18”(d), but I couldn't really even fit in a smaller one anyway. It's not that the room is particularly small, but the wall that the TV has to be against is very limited because of 2 doors, and I can't run wires or anything. Basically, the sub has to go under the TV. I need a TV stand that has a hole on the bottom for a large subwoofer. The subwoofer has to sit on the floor, so the TV stand can't have a bottom piece that rests on the floor.

What would be perfect is a normal TV stand, around 40" wide and 20" tall. It would be split down the middle. One side would have no shelves and no floor piece. The other side would have a floor piece and a shelf. The sub would go on one side, my equipment would go on the other (PS3, cable box, and receiver). I couldn't find a TV stand anywhere that has even close to what I need.

I found a company called audiav that builds custom stands and stuff. It seems like a great company. I called them and spoke to Jared (I think he's the owner). I told him what I needed and asked if they could build anything like that. He said yes, and even directed to a picture on his site that has something similar, shown here:

You can see how the sub sits on the floor. Mine would be like that but simpler. It would have just 2 pieces instead of the 5 shown in the picture (kind of like if it was just piece number 2 and 4 if you count from left to right).

We discussed some details and my options. I was very excited until I asked for a price estimate. He said it would depend on the specifics, but probably "only a few grand". I said "okay" and we continued to talk. At then end he told me to email him all of the information on what dimensions I needed and the equipment I have, and that they would make a CAD drawing with animation and everything to show me what it will look like before they build it. At this point I said:

"I have to be honest, I don't want you putting to much work into this because price is a huge factor for me. If I can't afford it, I won't be able to buy it, so I don't want you guys going crazy. I'm really just looking for something very simple."

He said not to worry about it and to email the information. He said he would give me as much attention as anyone else and if I can't afford it, it's no big deal. He said he would even see what he could do with discounts, etc... I'm afraid that with even their most basic setup and with discounts, this thing would still be well over $1,000, which is out of my budget. I was originally looking to spend under $300 for a stand, and I'd be willing to pay maybe double that for something custom made, but I think this might be out of my league. I plan on sending him the email anyway and letting him draw something up to see what it would actually cost.

I could just build something myself, but I don't have the time, and it would not be anywhere near as nice as even a cheap real stand. My question is, does anyone know of any other stands that would fit my needs? What about other companies that could offer something similar at a lower price point. This company seems great, but I think it's aimed at more affluent audiophiles than myself. Any ideas or comments?

Reading over the post and what you are looking for I don't think what you want really exists for that mass market and you will probably need to buy something either custom made or look for a different solution.

Have you by any chance thought of mounting the TV on the wall and getting a smaller stand for your components leaving room on the opposing side of the TV for your sub? You could get a modular set up for future upgrades and just leave an open space for the sub. Also, if you don't want to put holes in your walls some companies make free standing TV stands.

Just a couple thoughts that perhaps might not have crossed your mind. I know I have one friend with a similar situation [tight space] and he just used a few modular pieces to hold his gear and center after mounting his TV and is very happy.

HI there ...... Just a few ?????? for you.....

Do you have any kitchen stores or cabinet shops around you, I use to work in a shop and I am sure you can get something cheaper..... Right now I work in a counter top shop and still build cabinets from time to time........ I only wish you lived closer to me cause I am thinking on starting on doing custom home theater cabinets and full wall units (along with all the wiring) from my house untill I get more business and I know for what you want I could do it for less than $1000. Really you don't have that much cabinet there and the only reason it is going to cost you is cause it is ""CUSTOME""

Good luck with the quest and I hope you get what you are looking for....... My best advice is to build something yourself, you will get great satisfaction and you will feel so good when you get it done.....

If you do do it your self you can get (at most building stores) pre-finished 12-15 inch wide and 8 feet long finished boards used for shelving and you can use them and half of the work is already done.......:D
