Just wondering how a lot of these dealers you see on the net are able to offer receivers at such discounted prices over what you can get in a retail outlet. Is it the same product or are the internals changed to some degree. I understand that the obvious difference is no warranty. I could live with this though as some prices I've seen are over half MSRP. Thanks for any info.

With most products over $1000 range there is quite a bit of room for markup. This helps with dealer's overhead and allows them to make a profit. If someone gains access to products and sells them online, they can eliminate the cost of renting a building and paying employees. This is how thay can offer a heavily discounted price. Usually selling a product for a small profit. Some sellers like to get you hooked with the price and stick it to you with the shipping charges. So you need to check all aspects of the sale before you jump in.

It is possible to get a good deal from one of these online/ebay sellers. You just have to be sure that they are reputable. Ebay is nice because the feedback system, which lets a buyer know if a seller offers a reliable product.

You are correct in saying that you lose the factory warranty. So you must decide if the discounted price is worth it.

Other than overhead costs, they also do not have to offer service, tech support, customer support, ect. Also, these markups are not that high. On some of our $1000 dollar plus equipment we only make maybe $300. DVD players are a joke. On a $600 dvd player we make about $100. Wow, huge mark up.

Not to mention the person that usually buys that player or $1000 plus piece is usually going to use 30-60 mins of my time that I cannot charge them for with questions on hookup, setup, ect. over the phone or otherwise.
I do not understand why people think electronics are marked up through the roof. Have you ever seen what mark up is on the clothes you buy? Even the cheap clothing is in the 200% range. No one seems to be saing anything about that do they. When they have 50% off sales on clothes they still make a killing. Some food has tremendous mark up as well.
Sorry For Ranting. Sometimes this subject irks me.

You're so funny.

You two both right-

But I think marooned raised very good question to those cost sensitive-like me.rgriffin25 feeded back well to marooned questions. I've bought online my a/v equipments from unauthorized dealer to get the lowest price possible: a/v: Denon AVR-3802. dvd player 656A, infinity speakers...without the need of waranty, technical support...not because i was risky or pro ( no need technical support ( sorry to say that annunaki - I kow your job is related to technical support or...), just because i believe in the reputation of the manufacturers of the equipment i intend to buy. annunaki is also right- We can't take anything out of nothing!
But anyways, any of us who experienced what reliable online stores for a/v products selling best price for those who are cost sensitive-like me for references. Tks for that.
Sorry for blap-blap so long.

For some people it works great, for others, not nearly so. If a person has some experience and has a chance to listen to something first it works great. However, on the other side of that, if no one supports the local dealer he goes out of business. Then the person who does buy online cannot go an listen or sample before they purchase.
Good luck and glad to see you are happy with your equipment.
