Umm is this worth selling? Sat. HD receiver

I got this when I bought my new plasma, I got $300 off for singing up for direct tv, but ended up returning the tv. So.... I was probably supposed to return this receiver to Direct T.V. Im not even sure If I can sell it, so if you know please let me know.


But its never been used and just needs to get out of here, so it would be cool to get some beer and gas money out of it I guess. Ive seen them on ebay going for like $90, but im really not sure if I can sell it or not (I want to). Dont they have a serial number of some sort that is probably registered to me? Theres a sticker on the box that says its leased and cannot be returned to store, but stuff like this is strange and can sometimes fall into an abyss of a loophole. Example, I had a modem that I got from my sister who never turned it in to comcast, they charged here for it, she paid for it, then when I went to use it they said that the modem was theirs and I had to pay them $4 a month to lease it so... yah.

I never know what is going on with my DTV gear. Everytime I have upgraded my boxes, I end up with a an extra one. The rep on the phone says to trade in the old one by giving it to the installer, the installer says he doesn't want it, I never get charged anything and I have like 4 or 5 boxes in my closet.

businessjeff i could use that receiver. i moved to a different state and left behind a pile of directv & dish receivers. it was my intention to take the directv hd receiver but i plum forgot.

I tried to give a Dish receiver to a friend, but when he called them to activate it, they told him it was "leased equipment" and they couldn't do anything with it. It had initially been "leased" from them, but I haven't used it for years (I also have been charged the lease fee). It's been in my basement for so long and I just want to get rid of it. They have told me multiple times that they would send me a box, but they never do...

Anyway, in my case, it appears that the thing is worthless, and no one else can use it for some goofy reason. I know that you're working with DirecTV and I'm working with Dish, but I just wanted to comment on how at least part of that industry seems to operate so that you're no one's disappointed if the receiver doesn't work. I believe Dish has also obsoleted some receivers, so some of them might not work at all (I believe I had to get rid of my relatively-current 942 (HD) in order to get mp4 HD with the 622).

DirectTV no longer sells their equipment. They only lease it. Plenty of people are knowingly selling boxes that can't be sold both on Craigslist and E-bay. Buyer beware!

Dish still sells equipment. However, it's more cost effective to lease because they will still charge you a monthly fee for purchased equipment.
