I've been thinking of going to a 7.2 system I currently use Paradigm speakers and Velodyne subs.
My Reciever is Denon. My room dimensions are 13'6"x18'6"x 8'.My system is setup on the short wall.
Would I hear any obvious improvement? The way my room is constructed Dolby Atmos is out of the question. But I was thinking 7.2 would be better with DTS X.Or is it me just thinking 7 is better than 5! Any suggestions would be helpfull!

To me, your room size suggests 5 channels. That doesn't mean 7 channels would not add to the sound because it will.
Let us look at it this way:
Tell us what specific model speakers, sub(s), and receiver you have and what your budget is for an upgrade.
Also what percent of your listening is music/games/HT?
If you are a music person, putting all of your money into upgrading your front speakers is likely how you would get the best improvement (assuming you are not already rocking Signature series fronts).
For Gaming and HT, more attention may be appropriate for your sub(s) (unless they are Velodynes DD series).
If the gear you currently have are top of the line models, then yes, going to 7 channels is likely the way to get the most goody out of your added investment.

My front speakers sre Paradigm Milennia 200's The subs are older 1012's but still can crank it out. I listen mostly to blu-ray dvd's and music, mostly jazz ans classic rock.

7 best-case requires the speakers to be behind the seating and facing towards it, and to allow for proper dispersion you’d have to have the speakers at least 6-8 ft behind the seating. So, you’d have to flip your room to really get any benefit from it.

You probably already know that if you are looking for an upgrade path, most of us would encourage you to depart from the Millenia "lifestyle" design to a fuller sized pair of speakers for the front R & L.

Assuming you have reason to stick with the smaller speakers, I'm not too quick to suggest an upgrade. Paradigm makes good speakers (somewhat pricey, but well designed). Your room is small enough that I suspect the Millenia/sub combination does a good job of filling it.

One consideration is that you are running two subs. How are you working bass management? Do you have any concerns about how well they are integrated in your room?
To this end I might suggest you try something like a Denon X4000 or X4100W (lowest priced AVR to offer proper dual sub tuning/EQ). You can buy these from Amazon with a fairly easy return policy (make sure it is listen as "Prime" to ensure easy return). However, if you are content with the sound of your subs, just sit back, listen, and enjoy!
