These guys just brought service to my area and this is what I've been waiting for to tell Comcast to shove it!

However, I can wait a bit longer.

U-verse is soliciting door-to-door.
They are offering free installation and a DVR unit.
I still pay a $30 hook-up fee and there is no introductory promotional rate.

My question is can I get a better deal if I wait until U-verse has been in the area for a few more months.

Thanks!

U-verse is not available to me, but I have looked into their sevice.
the only bad thing I can see is that the hard drive on their DVR is about a third the size of my Dish DVR. And as far as i know they don't support an external HD as Dish does.

I switched to U-Verse last month. So far it's great and I would get it again if I had to do it all over. I had DirecTV for the past 4 years and if it was even supposed to get cloudy, it would drop service.

I switched over to their HD-IPTV, ISP and Voice over internet phone. I went with a middle of the road package and got like 300-400 bucks via prepaid credit cards.

The guy that did the install was really pretty good. He put the router in my closet and cleaned everything up nicely. Took him about 6 hours so I was cool with the $30 install fee.

Keep in mind, the "cash back" is only if you order online.

Well, I might would hold off with U-Verse.

The past few days I have noticed a lot of audio drops. I finally had time to talk with a tech last night and after going back and forth on things, he finally admitted that they have a:

"known issue with the Dolby Digital system and the receivers".

"AT&T Tech's found a bug on the system that caused the audio drop outs".

"We are already informed and aware about this and currently working on a resolution".

"It will be a system update on the receivers".

"An upgrade to its system will correct the bug".

"They are still testing the system upgrade".

"It should be corrected in the next few months".

Real nice Clark...Real nice....

I switched from Time Warner Cable to UVerse a couple of months ago. The system is terrific, no doubt, but the PQ on HD blows. Anytime of motion causes macro-blocking, noticeable even on my 42" LG. I'm very disappointed in that part of it. Plus if I'm playing back HD recordings, I get a slight audio cutout every 5 minutes or so.

Maybe I'll call tech support, but I'm not optimistic.

Is that a motorcycle battery in the closet?
Since the only phone in the house is Voip, how ya'd gonna call 911 if there is power outage?

Speaking of Macroblocks - I get plenty of these on my Cablevision cable 42" tv too - and overall hd pq blows. My only option would be Fios then it'll in my area.

What Nomo says is all true. Additionally, uVerse can support only ONE(1) HD TV.

With DishNetwork you can run two 722 VIP DVRs each with 750 gigabyte external drives and each 722 can support a HD and SD TV.

uVerse is availble in my area and I could have bundled with phone and DSL to save quit a bit, but uVerse can't currently meet my needs.

I thought I heard uverse can only do 720p, not 1080p?

I'd like to get off comcast ($200 month for ISP/tv/phone!), but have to pick.

I don't understand what you are saying here. I have 3 HD TVs going.

My HD PQ is as good as Dish or Direct (both of which I have had) no Macro-blocking at all.

The DD drop out sucks though.

ParadigmDawg,

I was told after I asked several times, that in my area they could only support one HD per uVerse per household. But what you say makes more sense; I mean the fiber optics bandwidth itself wouldn't be the limiting factor. The uVerse salesperson was probably misinformed.

Thanks for your comment.

"These guys just brought service to my area and this is what I've been waiting for to tell Comcast to shove it!"

I felt the same way. We bought a house in October and I switched from Comcast to ATT. My Comcast bill was $290 a month for Cable and Internet. With ATT it is $185 for the same plus unlimited home phone service. I got a deal online for free instal plus $250 cash back plus another $50 to sign up for online billing. Give it some time, or check online. It looks like ATT gives more of a discount if you use online ordering instead of calling them.

When comparing service my comcast would freeze every once in a while and so does my ATT. - Same

With comcast I could watch HD on all three of my HDTV's at the same time. ATT only one HDTV at a time can watch HD the other must be a SD program. -Advantage CC

ATT is $110 cheaper a month, $1260 a year. This is for the full blow packages. - Advantage ATT

Comcast customer Service has something to be desired, have not yet delt with ATT - ????

In my opinion being able to watch more than HD progam at one time is not worth $105 a month. I like my ATT Uverse better than my comcast.
