Hi

I am trying to decide between these two recievers. I was wondering what the consensus on this forum was between the two of them. I am planning to hookup my x-MTM towers, oppo player, DVR and I plan to add a sub and some surronds in the future.

I atleast need two HDMI inputs and one out. I would appreciate your input.

The Denon is considerably more expensive, hence it has more features. It has a street price around $750-850, the Onkyo TX-SR805 is more in line in terms of price, and pretty much wipes the floor with the Denon for the price. The X-MTM speakers don't demand huge amounts of power and the TX-SR605 would power them adequately.:) I think in this case it is a no brainer, get the TX-SR605.:D

Edit: The Denon AVR-2308CI offers Faroudja DCDi scaling up to 1080p which is a feature the Onkyo TX-SR605 and TX-SR805 do not offer. However, Faroudja is no longer a top of the line scaler like the Reon HQV. The Faroudja scaler performance in the Oppo is likely to be superior or equal to that of the Denon's scalers. Scaling VHS and other SD sources seems rather pointless because they are going to look aweful on an HD display regardless. Hope this additional information was helpful to your decision making process.:)

Thanks Seth, I can get the denons on a special for 550 + shipping hence the confusion. I was all set for the 605. Judging from what I have heard the 605s are really great, esp for the price, the only complains i have heard are overheating, no upconversion(which I dont require) and onkyo customer service.
