two Yamaha 8's or a Polk 10"?

My secondary HT system is in a medium size (approx. 12' x 15') bedroom. The mains are Klipsch Forte II's. The receiver will accommodate 2 subs, but at present, I have one 8" Yamaha sub hooked up. I believe if you go with two, they should be identical (please correct me if I am wrong!). So, would you recommend for this room another Yamaha 8" or one 10" Powered Polk sub?

Concerning the "two identical" theory. My Yamaha is a YST-SW90, which has one 8" driver. If I purchased a YST-SW160 with double the power and two 8" drivers, would that pair up well with my YST-SW90?

I'd usually say no to either brand of sub but two identical subs are usually easier to integrate. Or four, you can always use splitters :)

8in is more of a mid-woofer than a subwoofer. Is this for movies or music? What type of music do you listen to? Or what percentage of each? What is your budget?
I have a Rythmik L12 in our 1400 cu ft master bedroom but I would prefer two someday but my GF will not go for that. :) I think if I could do it over again, I would have done a L22 there due to the small floor footprint since only one box is her preference over 2 for some strange reason.... If not for WAF, definitely two L12s was my original scheme.... Maybe I’ll just stack 2 L12s and see what she does. LOL. :)
In the man cave / theater room I’m doing dual Rythmik LVX12 subs. I only bought one so far though. It is super loud and the only reason for two would be for perfect bass all throughout the room. The output from just one is already perfect in 2600 cu ft :)
If you are on a budget, I see used subs on Craigslist from SVS and HSU regularly. Good luck! :)

It's for TV in that room. And I'd like to keep it well under $200. There are three sw90's and at least one sw160 on ebay at the moment. I agree with lovin on the brands. But Amazon has a 10" Polk for $99 right now and I found this Yamaha on Craigslist months ago for only $40. In my living room, I have two floor-firing BIC 12's side by side. But this smaller room doesn't need that kind of set-up and I wouldn't have the room for that anyway. I am still wondering though about that sw160 with the two 8's. Would that pair up well with my sw90? Or would another sw90 best? At least one auction is ending tonight. Or go with the polk? Again, not so much for music.

I would consider craigslist or eBay. For example I saw a guy asking $250 for a VTF2 mk4. Another member here got a $300 VTF3 mk4 recently. I saw a pair of PB2000 last week that went for $400 each. Just my opinion.

OTOH I wouldn't worry a whole lot about a mismatch in subs, I've done it before, particularly for a bedroom system and the SW160 and SW90 are probably fairly similar, they even share the same manual and likely drivers....

I bought the dual 8" SW160 at a used speaker shop here in the Twin Cities. Got it for $79 and it is in really nice condition. I haven't played anything through it yet but I will tonight. But I did the YPAO calibration already so it is ready. I like the fact that i tripled my 8" subwoofer set-up in one fell swoop without compromising my theory (correct or not) about mismatching subs. Thanks for the advise everyone! I will post how it sounds probably tomorrow.

Probably because of the room size, it sounds really good. I was stunned actually that it would improve as much as it did and the cost was ridiculous. It is a 5.2.2 system.

Small rooms help small subs :) I used an 8" in a small bedroom a while back, and it was okay up to its limits, but when I brought that sub into my living room it was barely noticeable. Now I have two 12"s in a small bedroom, which is even better :)
