Two Questions from Newbie

Two Questions:

1. Should my coaxial cable be connected from:

a. Comcast box to receiver?

or

b. HDTV to receiver?

2. I have a HDMI-DVI cable that connects my comcast to my HDTV. For those of you with experience with this video output, is it worth it? The cable is rather expensive and I cannot tell the quality difference between HDMI and component cables.

I am new to this and I appreciate all your help.

Not all HDMI cables are expensive, but Monster sure is. If you can't see a difference, then just use the component switching of your receiver and enjoy the convenience.

1. I assume you mean the coax for digital audio and if so then run it from the comcast cable box to the receiver. If your tv has an atsc tuner (new tvs are required to have one) then you could run it from the tv digital out to the receiver, but then you would be using the tv's tuner and not the cable box and you won't be able to get premium channels that must be descrambled by the cable box.

2. No experience with HDMI, but it does seem that many people on the forums think there is little to no difference in picture quality between HDMI and component video in most cases. Just stick with the component cables.
