Get a relatively cheap LCD. Plasmas use more electricity and generate more heat in the room and projectors need screens and expert setup (not good for someone on the move). It's obvious from your post, that you don't have videophile pretensions or a preconceived idea about the hardware of TVs, so, any decent 1080P HDTV will probably do. Keep it simple.

If you know you're gonna move a lot and intend on keeping the set for a while, keep the box and all packinig materials, at least the styrofoam stays.

At 50" a plasma will be cheaper.

Newegg.com - Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 1080P 1920x1080 2000 Lumens Home Theater 3LCD Projector

Amazon.com: FAVI PD-HD-120 16:9/120-Inch Pull Down (Manual) Projector Screen: Electronics

You can hang the screen with two ceiling hook toggles. The projector can be put on a shelf behind the couch and adjusted to the screen very easily.

For a person moving I prefer a cheap screen since you may want to change out screen sizes more often. Once you get established then a better screen is a good investment.

I use a 92" screen which is ideal for most apartments. It is much easier to move than a TV.

A TV can realistically be setup on a piece of furniture instead of wall mounting. I love my projector, but a TV definitely is easier.

I would recommend, for someone moving a lot, a quality LED LCD display. They are very good looking, but not as heavy as plasma and will provide excellent image quality in a variety of unknown conditions. Realistically, they provide the most 'flexible' image. Not the best, the most flexible.

With that said, if you have the budget for a D6000+ series of Samsung display, at the size you want, then that's what you should be getting. They are light enough for one person to setup and install easily. Keep your packaging so that you can move from location to location far more safely and easily.

Something like this would be near the top of my recommended list:
Amazon.com: Samsung UN55D6300 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV (Black): Electronics

Many people would (and should) argue with you about audio as audio really does matter a great deal to a good experience, but with a lot of moving, I can understand your resistance. Perhaps a good speaker bar with wireless subwoofer at some point will give you a solid performance boost if you would like.

Remember! The best 2D TVs also support 3D, whether you use it or not, is irrelevent to the quality you are purchasing.

You've got some mains that can really dish out ultra SPLs at long distances. A projector/screen seems appropriate if you can figure out a way to make it work in the room.

Plasmas are great in dim rooms or at night but can be kind of annoying at day.

the moving around is a part of my job, but i am liking the idea of a projector, less to pack. but how do they work during the day?

They don't work well with light on the screen. Period. I moved into an apartment for a year after having a projector as my main display for a few years and absolutely HAD to get a plasma to deal with the fact we couldn't use the projector.

A projector seems nice... Heck, it IS nice. But, it does not work well in ambient light conditions, and just because it works in one location doesn't mean it will be able to be setup in another location just as easily. Compromises are always the case.

As much as I love front projection, it seriously does not sound ideal for your situation IMO.

We use curtains and the Epson 8350 has excellent brightness. I live in an apartment and setting it up requires some smart thinking. You can't just mount the screen anywhere. I do play during the mornings and have no issues. It's by no means ideal, but we make it work. The 8350 has around a 4000 hour bulb. A TV is much easier to setup. I personally love the challenge of setting up AV stuff. That being said I do wear glasses so my eye sight probably isn't as discerning as BMXs. I've found ambient lighting not as necessary at night because the light of the projector fills the room.

Please realize what I'm proposing isn't for the average person. You have to be a good problem solver, you have to enjoy the challenge, and you have to accept some compromise. The picture quality is fantastic. When I get the chance I'll take some pictures of the setup so you get an idea. Please note I hang the screen in front of the fire place because in Texas we have no need for fireplaces.
