TV volume stabilizing feature

Extremely fed up with the jarring volume jumps when commercials come on TV while listening through my Denon AVR-1603/Paradigm home theater system, I have been tempted to buy a newer receiver with Audyssey EQ and Dynamic Volume leveling. But I needed a new TV first, so last week I bought a 46 inch sony Bravia LCD. It has a "steady sound" feature which I quickly turned on. My wife and I were watching TV through the Denon and five speakers and sub and she commented that the volume seemed to be holding steady instead of blaring through the commercials. The TV and receiver are connected through a Motorola digital cable box. It seems I have achieved Dynamic Volume stabilization through my system (not just through the TV speakers) without having to buy a newer Audyssey equipped receiver. Or am I hearing things?

Dolby labs released Dolby Volume for this issue specifically. You would still need newer gear that has it, but Audessey isn't a requirement. The volume leveling act was passed though, so I am sure this will become a thing of the past by next year.
