TV Surround issues with HTIB

Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie, so please forgive my stupidity. I recently bought a JVC TH-C3 theater system (DVD and Receiver is 1 unit), and I have a JVC D series TV. Here is my current setup:

-Cable is directly connected to TV (no cable box, satellite etc)
-TV is connected to DVD/Receiver via component cables...working fine

What I don't have is any surround sound when watching regular TV. I would connect the Audio OUT (from the TV) to Audio IN (on the DVD/Receiver), except the Receiver doesn't have an Audio IN???? There are A/V inputs/output for a VCR only, and 1 digital (DBS) input. I don't think I can use any of these? Am I screwed here? Thanks in advance!!!

If you have the VCR audio in, use that, unless you have a digital out from the cable TV box?

Well, the VCR in worked!!! Thanks a lot!! The only thing I had to remember was to set the receiver to VCR, and turn the speaker off on the TV. The only thing that threw me off was that I still had to turn up the TV volume to get any sound. I'm now playing around with the volume levels on both the TV and Surround sound to get the nicest audio. Looks like I'll have to connect the VCR directly to the TV now as I have no jacks left on the receiver, but as I've read, a lack of Inputs is common for HTIB receivers

Thanks again :)

Sure you bet. You are on your way to tune it in. Yes, inputs are minimal. Enjoy.

You must be using the variable audio out on the tv. If there is a fixed audio out, use that instead and then only the receiver's volume control will affect the sound level. Some TVs have a menu setting to change from variable to fixed rather than two separate audio outputs.

For future reference, you can use ANY audio input on the receiver for audio from your tv - even those marked 'video x' (you just won't be using the video part).
