Hello everyone. I have a Philips tv. Model # 32PFL5322D/37) and a Philips Surround Sound system. I'm trying to get my television sound to run through my surround sound system. I have a Digital Audio Out spot on my television and an input one on my surround sound. I bought a digital audio out to in cable and hooked it up but can't get it to work. Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi, Nate.

You might need to assign the digital input on your surround sound system. If so, that would be described in your owner's manual. We can help with that if you let us know the model number.

I looked through the manual for your TV and didn't see any mention of setting the digital audio output up, so I'm assuming that it outputs sound by default.

maybe you need to turn off the TV speakers ?

just for the hell of it try this
" Press the MUTE button on the remote control to switch off the internal
loudspeakers of the TV."

Chck you TV manual to see of what it's capable. If that doesn't help, and it didn't look too good to me, you may want to call customer support.

A lot of TV's will only output digital sound if it came from it's own internal ATSC tuner, which is only good for OTA signals. If you're using a cable box or DVD player, it might not work at all or, at best, pass two channel PCM.

if you are using a cable box it would be easy to hook up audio to the receiver.

I will get you the model number of the SSS when I get home from class today around 4:30pm. :)

The first, and most obvious question:

Are you using a separate set-top-box cable tuner, or are you using the internal cable TV tuner on the Philips TV?

If using a separate cable TV tuner set-top-box (STB) then you should run audio out of that directly to your SSS, not through the TV if you don't have to.

Philips has some of the worst engineered products I've ever seen with almost no cross company discussion on proper system design etiquette. That is, one division (TV) is likely building product without any discusssion or thought to using Philips audio products.

ie: How is it that the company which basically invented the mid-level remote (pronto) makes TVs which don't have discrete power on/off or input select on their own TVs?

There are still any number of reasons why audio may not be going to the SSS, but with Philips the list of reasons is rather long, and bypassing the TV as a potential issue is a good first step.

Now you raise all kinds of issues here.

Since we've already covered that it's not likely the TV will pass through any audio to begin with, let's just see how you have that computer connected to the TV.

What is "mt" sound? Why not just feed the 'puter audio directly to the receiver?

You've got to read these posts and try to understand what's being said in order to get any help and, so far, you don't seem to be doing so.

Typically you will not run audio into the TV, but directly to the SSS in this case.

How is your computer feeding the TV audio? HDMI? Digital? Analog? Does the TV have any issues playing back the audio?

If not, then just plug that audio connection directly into the SSS and go with it.

But, because you now have a PC in the mix, it could end up being a sound card setting or something similar which needs to be tweaked.
