Ok, I am confused and I need help. I moved recently and now I have to put my TV back up on the wall in my living room. The problem is that the only spot in my living room where my TV is not going to look out of place (due to room layout and furniture) for my TV is right above the fireplace. First of all I am not sure if i could put my 42 inch flat screen right above the fireplace. Second of all, I dont know how to run cables to my TV. I want the cables to run behind the wall. Since there is a fireplace right under where the TV would be, the cables will have to penetrate the drywall either on the left or right of the fireplace. This means that it will not be a straight run up to the TV, The verticle studa will not allow the cable to make it to the TV. Has anyone been in this situation before. I am planning on having the TV above the fireplace, a small entertainlment unit to house my equipment and only two speakers ( on either side.

Thanks guys.

It depends on what kind of fireplace. In most situations it should be ok. The best thing to do is, run the fireplace at full heat, and see how hot it gets along the wall above the mantle. If the fireplace is built to code, the wall should remain at ambient temprature.

This should not be a problem at all. An electrical contractor would be able to easily fish wires to the appropriate location since they deal with such situations on a regular basis.

Since you need to traverse a stud-space you'll need to fish your cables either above to an attic or below to a basement or crawlspace and then over to enter the space behind the fireplace.
