TV or Receiver to upconvert?

Here's a question that doesn't seem to be touched on at all...I am building a home theater, and I have about $2000 for a TV and $500 for a receiver. At this price point, it looks like DCDi is out of the question, but I have some low def sources (and I love the idea of 1 cable to the TV) would I be better off to get a receiver that upconverts or let the TV handle it? whcih normally does a better job?

Don't use up-conversion as a primary criteria for which component to buy first because there are many variables that are much more important...IE...screen size for one. You really have not offered enough background info for anyone to give a valid answer, which might be the reason for lack of response.

Here is the link to a recent post in reference to the same question you have. This may provide some more info for you on the matter.

It seems that opinions on this subject vary. In my case I believe my tv does a good job of upscaling and chose not to use the receiver for upscaling at all. I only run a digital audio connection from the receiver to the satellite receiver and dvd player.
