tv flashing problem

okay, i'll take this from the beginning, starting with the specifications of my system, excluding speakers, since this has nothing to do with them.
-RX-V757 reciver (will be upgrading sometime in the future)
-Zenith CRT Television (circa 2002-2003) with rounded glass, not the newer flat screen CRT TVs, silver, about 32" diagonal, unknown model number (hence the explanation)
-Zenith XBV342 DVD/VCR player
-Scientific Atlanta Digital Cable Thingy :p
-standard RCA video cables. (using video 1 jack on back of TV)

okay, when the hifi buys (tweeter) guy came out and installed it, we were excited to have a decent stereo system finally. but after he hooked it in, the tv completely flashed blank (black) for about a second, and then up in the corner where it shows channel 1, channel 2, etc. it says S-VIDEO, and then it says VIDEO-1 and the signal comes back on. it doesn't do this once every 5 minutes, or sometimes not in a few hours, but it does it sporatically. it won't do it for a long time, then it'll start doing it every couple of minutes, and then stop again. the sound does not go out at all. and it does it whether it's on cable, radio, tv, etc.

we called the hifi buys guy (who i'll just refer to by his name, frank, to save space from now on), and he came out and saw it, and said that it was the video cable that goes between the tv and reciever that was bent in an unusual way and wasn't functioning properly. so he bent it back straight, and put it back in, and it kept doing it about every 10 minutes or so. so he put a totally new video cable and left. it kept doing it after he left. before he left, he said that the next step would be to replace all the video cables (cable box to reciever, dvd/vcr to reciever, reciever to tv) with S-Video cables (and obviously use a different jack on the tv) and we called back to the hifi buys and the salesman said he'd talk to the repair guys yesterday, and we haven't heard a word since. anybody got any idea what this problem could be?

Sounds like a control problem of some sort, not input.. it's cycling through it's various inputs, but that's the sort of thing it does ONLY when commanded to. My TV does it only when I push the button on the remote to change to a different input.

There's not a remote sitting under the couch cushion, is there? :)

Seriously, though, the first thing I'd do is rule out the possiblity that it's recieving the command externally.. remove the remotes from the room, or take their batteries out, and see if it continues.

After that... um... I dunno, maybe somebody else here would know more on the subject. :) I can take apart a lot of stuff, but to me, a TV is still just a single "complete" unit.

the batteries have been out of the remote for at least 2 months, and there's no way to change inputs without the tv remote. :p
besides, when it cycles when you press the button, it goes channel 3-video 1-video 2 and doesn't have a s-video setting, but video 1 and video 2 have an option of s-video, if that makes any sense.

The TV may need to be reset. Unplug it over night and see if this helps.
