I’m totally new to all that’s discussed on these forums and reading the manual is like discovering a new language. My dilemma is to put audio from my year old 32” Panny TV into my receiver and into the speakers. I don’t have HD cable service so my understanding is HDMI won’t work as the TV doesn’t send audio, just receives it, I think. Would an s video or other cable work? As you can tell my language understanding skill is really lacking! TYIA

No, S-video passes video only. But, if your cable box has red/white RCA analog audio outputs, you should br able to feed them directly to your receiver.

What is the model number of your TV?

If you truly do not have an audio out, then you need a stand alone ATSC tuner. However I can't source one for you as the few that I know of are now discontinued.

I suspect you do have an audio out, although it might not give you surround.

If there are no longer ATSC tuners, and you do not have an audio out, then you will have to get cable or satellite TV.

Welcome to the forum, visch1!

As TLS asked, please let us know your TV model number so that we can check the connection options.

Odds are that the TV has an optical digital audio output. If so, then the cable that you want is like the one pictured below. You can get them at several online retailers, and I suspect that you'll also have several local stores that carry them. Monoprice.com is a good place to buy most cables, as their prices are quite reasonable, but there are other good options. You shouldn't have to pay more than ~$5 for a six-foot cable.

End of cable

Thanks for the response. It looks like the 2 of them have optical cable provision. In doing a quick look up I see no longer than 8 foot lengths, does that mean longer lengths have less audio quality? I’m just looking to listen to a few cable company all music channels with something better than TV speakers which are no where as good as what most of you listen to as I’m deaf in one ear and the other is declining but they sound good to me. One of the Pannys is TC – L32 S1

Glad that you can use the optical connection.

You can definitely get longer than eight feet. Monoprice has up to a 50-foot version for under $8.
