I bought a used B&O beogram 5500 and am having trouble setting it up. My Rotel surround sound receiver doesn't have a phono input. Can I use a tape input? And what about the ground wire? There are two inputs for wires under Antenna. Is that okay? One final question, I put a record on it and played (even though sound wasn't coming out) and the record seemed to be spinning too fast....and yes, it was on 33 RPM.

THANKS for helping me with these amateur questions!!!!

Please help me out!!!

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on this turntable and what it might be worth? I paid $150.

Thanks!!!!

No, you cannot use the Tape input direct from the turntable. You need a phono preamplifier in-between the turntable and the Rotel. Turntables have virtually no voltage at the line level, that's why a phono preamplifier is necessary. The ground is to prevent feedback, it needs to be grounded to the chassis of the phono preamplifier.

You also need a phono pre-amp to equalize the output of the turntable properly. Records are cut using the RIAA curve which de-emphasizes bass and emphasizes treble. That keeps the grooves from being huge. A phono pre-amp reverses that.

Thanks for the replies!

So, there is no way around it? To make it work with the Rotel?

Do you think that would effect the speed of the playback?

Thanks again!!!

No way around it. And the speed of the turntable is adjusted on the turntable itself.
