I have a plasma TV with component input and svideo. I want to convert cable tv (75 ohm coax) that works without a cable box on the regular tv tuner. I want to convert ,record and playback on my plasma tv. The sound will be taken care of with my Yahmaha receiver. The cable is rf output I think I am new at this.

Welcome to the forum!

There are few different products that will do what you want. I'd suggest that you check out something like the Philips DVDR3576H/37, which has digital and analog tuners, a DVD recorder, a built-in 160GB hard drive, and likely all the connectivity that you want.

Viewing direct

Tahnks Adam, with the Philips unit will I be able to view, with the tuner, direct to composite output or will I have to record first? If not, is there a convertor from coax cable to the 3 wire composite output?

My parents own last year's model of this. Yes, you can watch TV through the tuner without having to record it first. Video-wise, the unit has outputs for HDMI, component video, s-video, and composite video.
