I'm planning to buy a DVR/VCR combo unit to record our family videos onto DVD's. I'm confused about whether I need a unit with a tuner or not. My HDTV already has a tuner built into it. We may record shows also.:)

It sounds like you may not need a tuner, but all things being equal, I'd take it. If your TV has an output, you may be able to use that to feed the VCR/DVD unit, but you'd have to check the owner's manual to be sure; it may only feed the display itself. Also, if you have dual tuners -- one in the VCR/DVD and one in the TV -- you can record one thing while watching another. Unless it's a lot more money, I'd say go for it.
