hello i think i might need a second opinion on how ive set this sub up to belnd with my SBS01 bookshelves i am running them on a HK3380 as this is not a 5.1 amp i dont have the choice to set the speaker's to small in the receiver so i am useing the crossover to blend them i am running it as a 2.1 bedroom set up i have set some PM' to mike c who has been more than helpful with suggestions on how to do this like going from the pre out on the HK to sub LO level input then LO level output back to mains in on the HK thus saveing my SBS01'S from playing the low frequencies i tryed this but got better results with using the sub out on the HK i am new to this sub tuneing thing so please bare with me and i am doing all the adjustments by ear so sorry if this make no sence i am still learning i will post a picture of how i have the setting on the sub please give us your feed back what settings you would change thanks again

IMO, if you are not using the 2.1 setup for critical listening, don't bother with an outboard crossover. Looking at the SBS-01 SPL vs Freq graph, looks like they have a high pass filter with cross over at 100Hz.

Use the setup as follows,

On the HK, do not remove main to preout jumper
Speaker connections to SBS-01
sub out to Y connector to Sub in
Set sub crossover between 80-100Hz
Level match by SPL meter or ear

You will need to play with the sub cross over and level matching to get the best possible blending. This should yield a fairly smooth theoretical response (if at all a slight bump between 80-100Hz, use the PEQ on the Ultra to tame it if needed). The room response based on speaker and sub placement will have a much greater impact on the achieved in room response.

If you want the whole shabang... get a DCX 2496.

On HK, remove main to preout jumper
Pre out L - DCX in 1
Pre out R - DCX in 2
DCX out 1 - L
DCX out 2 - R
DCX out 3 - Sub

Now you will need to configure the DCX for output as so,

out 1 = in 1 high pass at 100Hz
out 2 = in 2 high pass at 100Hz
out 3 = sum 1, 2 low pass at 100

This will yield a basic setting. Now you can use the PEQ function to smooth out the response. Maybe Isiberian can help here.

If it is in the budget the DCX would be a nice additon to any setup, especially for the fron sound stage. I also recommend using REW for the the PEQ/Eq setting to completley smooth out the responce.

Honestly I wouldn't use a monster sub in a stereo setup. Most music doesn't go that low. I suggest a smaller sealed sub for music. Velodyne makes really nice subs for music IMO.

But 100hz is probably your best bet for a crossover. Make sure you corner load the sub and then do a crawl test if necessary.
