Tucson Holiday Giveaway

Well, 'tis the season, my friends. The holidays are a good reminder for me to try to help out those who aren't as well off as some of us, and as such, I'm giving away some A/V gear. My hope is that these will go to people who would otherwise be unable to have them and that can truly appreciate them. As someone who's family used to be without, I know what it's like. Clearly, such gifts aren't intended for people who can't afford food - such charity will be handled outside this forum. These are for people who perhaps are having a rough year and who could use a pick-me-up. These aren't for people who just want a garage system or a spare unit for the game room - after all, these are my spares. While it's tough to part with these, I hope that they can serve someone else better who would otherwise be without anything.

Shipping costs on these would likely exceed their worth, so it's local pick up only (sorry). Also, this isn't going to be on a first-come, first-served basis. Let me know if you or someone you know could really use any of these things, and I'll decide who gets them. Please post in this thread, as my PM box is almost full. You can always post that you'd prefer to PM, and I'll contact you. I'll say upfront that I'll lean heavily towards helping out any of Matt's friends in the military because I highly respect what they're doing for us all (and I trust Matt to give these to people who are in need). Everyone has a chance, though. I'll also be offering these to people that I know locally.

With that said, the following items are available. They are all in excellent condition and in their original boxes unless otherwise noted:
  • JVC AV-27BM5 27" CRT television shown here (I have the box, but I don't want to risk trying to put it in the box by myself)
  • Small TV stand that the JVC fits on perfectly and that will hold two other components on shelfs, as well as media behind closed doors (good shape, already assembled, with no box). This only goes if the TV goes, but it doesn't have to go to the same person.
  • Yamaha RX-V992 A/V receiver with Dolby Digital decoding and learning remote control
  • Toshiba SD-3107 DVD player
  • Sony CDP-C225 five-disc CD carousel (didn't come with a remote but I have one that I will include)
  • Dell-branded Sony Trinitron 19" CRT computer monitor - beautiful picture and uses a VGA connection
The TV, TV stand, and monitor are too large to fit in my car, so someone would need to come to my house to pick them up. We could work something out on the other items.

I also have the following items that are not in as excellent of condition, but are still completely functional. These would also need to be picked up:
  • Two black halogen torchiere floor lamps
  • Media console - small piece of furniture with doors that holds CDs, DVDs, etc.
  • Computer desk (like the one shown here) with hutch
I ask for nothing in return. This truly is a giveaway. I apologize for the short notice before the holidays. I will take all requests and decide by the end of next Saturday who will get them. That still gives a few days before Christmas to pick them up and give them to your friends in need.

Happy holidays, everyone!

This thread kind of slipped through the cracks. It's past the holidays, but I'd still like to help people out if you know anybody who's in a rough patch.

I think that the Yamaha is spoken for now, and maybe the disc players. However, I'm considering adding my old entertainment center (shown here) to the list.

Just let me know.

Thanks for doing this, I have tons of family and friends in Tucson, but they are all doing pretty well, so here's hoping other Tucsonian "members" can benefit. Very generous of you.

Yeah, but when will you be able to cross the border to get it? :D

Thanks! I'm happy that your family and friends are going well, and I appreciate the kind words.

I wish that it was practical to open this up to everyone, but the shipping costs on this stuff wouldn't make it worth it.

I want to thank all of you who looked and commented. I posted these here first because I thought they would appeal to the folks who come here, but I also knew that the representation around Tucson is pretty small.

I now plan to donate these items to other outfits. If anyone sees this thread and is interested in something listed, feel free to ask if it's still available.
