I've not made nor heard those DIY tubes. I've heard from several others that the material they used is way too dense. I can't say personally.

As for store bought, tube traps can do a lot for your room. They are not cheap and are certainly not small or unobtrusive but they do work. They are very flexible in comparison to normal panel traps as they can be moved easily and can be rotated (half is reflective, half is absorbtive at higher frequencies) to 'dial things in' based on your room, your needs, and exactly where you place them.

Do a search on Jon Risch diy tube traps. These are like a clone of ASC tube traps, work excellent and are easy to build. Also Ethan Winer of realtraps.com has an excellent diy trap. Either way do what you can, your ears will thank you big time.

it's a good idea and easy to do. One thing i wonder why the person (link) place so many tube traps. Are they all for bass trap or bass trap + acoustic absorbtion?

For acoustic panel, i would get a box of acoustical ceiling tiles from Home Depot and cover each piece with lose fabric. I think it's a 2'x4'. For bass trap , get those fiberglass tube from http://www.insulationworld.com/prodView.asp?idproduct=266
for 4 corners of the room.
