R roscoe1224 Enthusiast Dec 6, 2010 #142 i know its been a while since this was all started, but what was the total cost of materials/driver? also is it 100% necessary to use the sms-1 system, or is it really the best way to control a beast such as this?

Click to expand... Sorry I missed this, I think I had under $300 into it not including the amp. You don't need the SMS-1 necessarily but some kind of EQ would be beneficial. BTW- My Tuba HT is for sale if anyone is local, Sierra Vista/Tucson area.

M maxjr Audiophyte Dec 26, 2010 #146 Hey Matt! Max here from AVSforums. I just read through this entire thread. Great build! I'm curious to what you are moving on to since you are selling the THT?

M maxjr Audiophyte Dec 27, 2010 #150 Does the Tuba HT limit bandwidth to the sub in any way? Like a bandpass box? I'm just curious as to what the tradeoffs are with an THT is versus Sealed or Ported (other than it's large footprint and volume requirements). What are the negative tradeoffs of a THT?

W wormraper Audioholic Intern Feb 4, 2011 #152 sorry to raise the old thread again.... any word on reliability for ww.gr-research.com as a vendor???? Danny from over there is blowing out teh MFW-15 driver (similar specs to the dayton used in Bill THT build and given his stamp of approval) for $79!! if they're a good vendor I may snag a pair for my THT's instead of waiting for the Daytons

Yes, Danny at GR-Research is a very respectable guy that has been in the business for a number of years. I wouldn't hesitate buying from him.

A couple of guys built a THT or so over at Bills site and get fantastic results with the MFW-15 driver so I think for $80 it'l be a bit of savings over the Dayton DVC EDIT: grabbed 2 of them, 1 for me 1 for my buddy who's helping me build our THT's.... x fingers Last edited: Feb 4, 2011

Horns are highly efficient and you could probably knock the walls down with less than five watts.

lsiberian Audioholic Overlord Feb 7, 2011 #157 I really want to try the anarchy horn, but the size needed is prohibitive.
W wormraper Audioholic Intern Feb 28, 2011 #158 Matt. I noticed you built the whole thing without the internal braces... I'm right at the stage where I'm to put the internal bracing for the first time (between panels 3 and 5...aka driver hole and the opposing panel)... did you have any negative sound affects without them???

Click to expand... They don't have any effect on the sound, they are there for support only. I didn't think they were really needed so I left them out and I still would have no problems jumping up and down on the enclosure.

I think I'll leave em out for the first set at least (driver hole ones) and just add them in for the other panels....
