Trying to hook up laptop and PS1 through DVD player

Hello,

Here is my situation:

I just bought a JVC 5.1 speaker and DVD player. I am trying to hook up both my laptop and my Playstation (PS1) to the DVD player. I think this should be possible as I have a 3 input switcher.

Here are my connections:

I have S-Video running from the TV to the DVD.
I have RCA video (yellow) running from the TV to the DVD.

I have RCA (audio and video) and S-Video running from VCR in on the DVD to the output connectors on the switcher.

On input 1 on the switcher I have S-Video running to the laptop and RCA audio running tot he laptop. When I select input 1 and have the TV on S-Video and the DVD on VCR this works perfectly.

On input 2 on the switcher I have RCA (audio and video) running to the Playstation (PS1). When I select input 2 and have the DVD set to VCR I receive sound from the 5.1 setup (which is what I want). However, I can never get the TV to display the Playstation's video signal.

I can get sound and video from the TV if I hook the PS1 up to the TV directly over RCA, but this isn't really what I want.

Can anyone offer me any advice as to how I can get video from the Playstation (PS1) using the switcher?

Thanks,

Tim

It sounds like the DVD player/receiver does not convert composite video to S-Video. In this case, you will need to connect the PS1 video directly to the TV.

It won't make a difference that I have the yellow cord running from the switcher to the DVD player and then from the DVD player to the TV? Shouldn't that alleviate the need for any "conversion?"

The TV has two alternate modes: "Front" and "S-Video" so I figured I could use "Front" but the only way the PS1 uses that is if it's connected directly to the TV.

That should work too.

Except that is exactly what doesn't work. I currently have the PS1's video going straight into the TV and the audio going through the switcher. This way I get surround sound from the speakers. I think ideally I should have everything hooked up to the switcher, but this isn't working.

Maybe it would help if you made a diagram in Paint or something similar. Pictures may help too.
